Buckingham Fountain
back to Chicago activities
As if it were Chicago’s Polaris, the Buckingham Fountain is where most residents and visitors go for a free show. The light and music show is spectacular, especially at twilight. Water jets go as high as 150 feet. Philanthropist Kate Buckingham had it constructed as a memorial to her brother Clarence and bestowed it to the people of Chicago in 1927. The fountain was modeled after the Latona Fountain at Versailles.
