Las Vegas’ version of Venice succeeds in its attempt to exalt the Italian jewel of the Renaissance. For the construction of the Venetian, historians were commissioned to supervise the design of this multi-billion dollar resort. To-scale replicas of popular landmarks like the Rialto bridge, the Doge’s Palace, the Campanile, and indoor and outdoor canals, combine to recreate the look and feel of the Italian city.

Itinerant ‘street’ performers (the Artisti Dell Arte, classically trained singers, actors and musicians from all over the world) entertain the crowds that gather at St. Mark’s Square, while gondoliers serenade passengers on their way to the Grand Canal Shoppes. This mall features faux facades and chic boutiques such as Jimmy Choo, Dooney & Burke, Mikimoto and St. John Sport along cobblestone walkways.

A new resort, the Palazzo, is currently under construction (it began in 2005). When it is finished, the combined Venetian and Palazza resorts will be the largest resort complex in the world. Other attractions include Guggenheim Hermitage Museum’s impressive art collections and Madame Tussaud’s lifelike wax statues of famous people. The Venetian connects to a large convention center, the Sands Expo, which makes it a very popular convention hotel as well.
