Finished after a century amid wars, political struggles, and shortage of funds, Catedral de la Almudena now majestically stands in its Neo-Gothic white and gray façade as a stark example of “eclectic 19th-century design.” Located opposite the resembling Palacio Real, the cathedral has a crypt housing a 16th-century image of the Virgen de la Almudena. You can simply bathe in the glory of the natural light flooding the interior due to the multihued ceilings and stained-glass windows; you could also listen to the grand Grezing organ masterfully played on Sundays and holidays.
