The Museum is one of the most important collection of Japanese art of the Edo period. This collection was bought by Prince Henry II of Borbone, Count of Bardi during his travel to Asia, bewteen 1887 and 1889. More than 30.000 objects, among which swords and daggers, Japanese armours, delicate enamel objects and precious porcelains, with wide sections dedicated to Indonesian and Chinese art.

At first, everyhing was set in the inside of Palazzo Vendramin Calergi where the Coun lived, and where he wanted to mounted for a permanen exposition. When he died, after some vicissitudes, the collection was controlled by a Viennese antiquarian who started to sell it. At the end of the Fist World War, the Italian government gained the collection as a compensation for damage. From the year 1928, the collection is preserved at Cà Pesaro thanks to an agreement between the Italian state and the City of Venice.
