Museums in Baku

We will start our tour with a visit to the National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature. Originally devoted solely to the life and times of Persian epic poet Nizami Ganjavi, it has grown to cover other national authors and its 23 rooms contain countless manuscripts, lithographs, first editions and art collections.

Our next stop will be the State Carpet Museum based on the collection of carpet-maker Latif Karimov and showcases 600 carpets saved from the Armenian invasion in 1992. Meanwhile, the old mansion of oil magnate and philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev is home to the Azerbaijan History Museum, the largest museum of Azerbaijan. The museum takes up an entire city block and was designed by Polish architect Jozef Goslawski. The museum currently has more than 2000 exhibits and has the most complex artwork in all of the city.

The last stop will be the Azerbaijan State Museum of Art, the biggest art museum in Azerbaijan. The museum was named after Rustam Mustafayev, a prominent Azeri scene-painter and artists and its two buildings houses 3000 items distributed in its 60 rooms.
