What To Expect
This tour takes you back in time on a route paved by kingdom builders. Thailand's history is comprised of the rise and fall of kingdoms and on our journey we'll cycle through more than 700 years of history visiting three UNESCO World Heritage sites that defined the country and culture of Thailand.
From our starting point Bangkok we head north to the former Kingdom of Ayutthaya. Once one of the wealthiest cities in the East during its prime years, the city was conquered and destroyed by the Burmese after more than four centuries of rule. Cycling amongst the ruins we'll learn how the authoritarian god-kings of Ayutthaya ruled with an iron fist.
We visit the Kok Mai Duen Ancient City on the way north through the abundant rice basket of Thailand and we arrive at what is considered to be the first true Thai kingdom; our second UNESCO Heritage site - Sukhothai.
We cycle around the Kamphaeng Phet National Park and then take a well-earned soak at the hot springs. Riding further northward, the terrain becomes more rugged as mountains flank our path on both sides as enter what was once known as the Lanna Kingdoms. In this land once ruled by the Tai people we visit the quaint old town of Phrae, stopping also at the always popular and important Elephant Conservation center before transferring northwards to Lamphang. We really see the influence and history in the recently excavated ruins of the Haripunchai Kingdom before the ride ends in the northern capital of Chiang Mai.
