SUMMER ROUTE: (June 15 to September 14)
We will travel to Figueres, the birthplace of renowned artist Salvador Dali and location of the famous Dali Museum-Theater. We will be able to explore where he was born on Monturiol Street, just off the popular rambla and visit the museum Dali himself built around the former theater where his first exhibition was held. The museum was originally crated and built in 1961 but was not officially opened until 1974. Dali’s purpose in creating this exhibit was to let visitors see this massive collection as a “whole” work hence there is no chronological or subject order nor are there any catalogues.
From Figueres, we will travel to the village of Pubol for lunch after which we will visit Dali’s Pubol Castle. This masterpiece stands in small hamlet on the great agricultural plain of the Ter river. Dali gave the castle to Gala in the spring of 1970 on the condition that he would not enter it unless personally invited by Gala, an expression of his passionate love for her. The old Gothic Renaissance Palace was carefully restored and furnished with items bought from various antique dealers around the region and frescoes Dali himself painted. The crypt deep in the bowels of the castle was also built by Dali and is where Gala was laid to rest.
We will continue to Palamos, a region visited by Dali several times in the 1930’s. The region was famous for its artistic gatherings and parties attended by Dali. See how time seemingly stood still with its transparent waters and pine forests.
WINTER ROUTE: (April 1 to June 14; September 15 to March 31)
We will set out for the beautiful coastal village of Cadaques, situated on the bay "at the end of the world" and situated a few kilometers away from Port Lligat where Dali sought peace and quiet that served as his inspiration. The great artist bought a fisherman’s hut in the area after breaking away from his parents when he met Gala, the love of his life. This was Dali’s home from 1930, gradually altering the original dwelling. The studio in this house was where he created majority of his great works and every detail bears his imprint. The house still contains his original furniture and decorations.
We will continue to the center of Cadaques, the jewel of Costa Brava. This typical fishing village is famous for its white Mediterranean houses, narrow shady streets and sandy bay. We will have time to enjoy the local seafood specialties on one of the numerous terraces facing the Mediterranean or to simply relax and appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the place.
After lunch, we will head to Figueres, birthplace of Salvador Dali and explore the world-famous Dali Museum-Theater.
