About Beijing Ming Tombs

The resting place of Emperors is nestled in the scenic mountains of the Chang Ping District.

Thirteen tombs are laid out according to feng shui. Mysterious sculptures of animals and kilins (mythical beasts) line the Spirit Way, the road leading to Emperor Yongle’s burial vault. It is said that the creatures were placed there to wait for the sons of heaven to return home. Meanwhile, Emperor Shen Zong features an underground palace, gloomy and home to over 3,000 artifacts. So far, only three tombs have been excavated. Another highlight is China’s largest memorial column inside a pavilion on the Spirit Way.
