What To Expect
On this tour you will visit the lagoon where the famous "El Dorado" legend originated.
The lagoon was discovered in 1537 by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. It was considered to be sacred by the indigenous Muisca tribe. They used it to ceremonially bathe in gold the leader of the tribe, and that's why the legend of "El Dorado" speaks of the many golden treasures hidden there. That's also the reason why, in the past, treasure hunters tried to drain the lagoon in their desperate search of gold.
You will get to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lagoon and its surroundings. We will visit the indigenous cemetery, the Mount of the Three Old Ladies, the valley and the Tomine Reservoir. You will also have the chance to buy local crafts work, which includes products made out of wool, clay, copper, silver and gold. At the end of the tour you will be dropped off at your hotel or at a convenient place within the urban area.
