What To Expect
The tour begins at the Convent la Popa, where we will appreciate a panoramic view of the whole city. From here, you can have a better perspective of how the city was hundreds of years ago. Any visitor that arrives at Cartagena will have the chance to visit La Popa, a small hill 148 meters above sea level.
Our next stop is the Castillo San Felipe, a fort built around 1639 and 1762. It is a stunning example of the military engineering of that period with its endless tunnels, canyons and fortresses. Within its walls lies a handful of stories about pirates and Spanish conquistadors.
Then, we will take a short walk through the historic center where every small street, house, balcony and church has its own story. From the city center we head to the Claustro San Pedro Claver, a calm and tranquil museum that guards the relics of Saint Pedro Claver, who defended the slaves.
We will then head to the House of the Inquisition, the site of over five hundred executions committed to preserve the purity of Church doctrine during the 13th Century. Nowadays is a museum and memorial to the victims of the Inquisition that is also the setting of many ghost stories!
Finally we will visit Las Bovedas, where prisons once stood. Now, it is a place where you can find beautiful handcrafts. At the end of the excursion, you will be dropped off at your hotel or at a convenient place within the urban area.
