What To Expect
Discover the 397 Moais that were carved and erected on Easter Island by the Rapa Nui people.
From the airport, enjoy a transfer to your hotel. Spend the day at your own leisure after checking in the Hotel Rapa Nui.
The Hotel Rapa Nui is perfectly located in Central Hanga Roa, providing guests a sustained balance between nature and the highly preserved culture of the town. Complete with rooms perfect for solo, couple, or family travelers, this hotel accommodates all types of guests. Carefully designed with a mix of the modern and cultural artistry of the town, each room promises a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Guests may find it easy to discover the town even more with the hotel's impressive location at the city center where the shopping area, restaurants, museum, craft market, and souvenir shops are plenty.
After a hearty breakfast in your hotel, go on a full day excursion to the Moais Route and the Anakena Beach.
From your hotel in Easter Island, head to the east of the island to visit the ancient temples of Ahu Vaihu and Akahanga. See a great variety of Moais (large monolithic figures carved out of volcanic rocks) and their Pukaos (topknots and hats placed on top of each Moais). Next, go to Rano Raraku, a volcanic crater where the gigantic Moais were sculpted. A Lagoon can also be found in this crater.
Afterwards, come to the Ahu Tongariki, a ceremonial platform containing 15 huge Moais. The most popular of these Moais is the Te Pito Kura, a Moais considered to be the largest one erected in the platform. Next to these Moais, the Te Pito o Te Henua stands; a symbol of the world's navel according to the Rapa Nui ancients.
Visit Anakena Beach, the most popular beach on the island where you can catch glimpses of the Moais with their backs turned from it. After this, return to your hotel in Easter Island.
After breakfast, come to the Ana Kai Tangata cave where ancient illustrations of sea swallows and their contribution to the lives of the Rapa Nui people are illustrated.
Admire the huge basalt slabs at Vinapu Archaeological Site where you can also see the Rano Kau Volcano. What makes these slabs one-of-a-kind is that they are the only type of stonework that can be found in a Polynesian site.
Lastly, visit the Orongo Ceremonial Center, a ceremonial center located on the lip of the Rano Kau Volcano. This center was the official Birdman ceremony venue where the Rapa Nui kings were selected. It has witnessed the happenings during the times of the Tangata Manu cult.
Return to your hotel in Hanga Roa.
After breakfast, come to the Ahu Akivi where you may be able to see the seven gigantic Moais on a platform.
Admire the seven Moai statues which were rumored to represent the seven explorers sent by King Hotu Matu'a to locate Rapa Nui thousands of years ago. Some even say that the Moais are looking back towards where the Rapa Nui locals once came from.
From your hotel, enjoy transfers back to the Hanga Roa airport after breakfast.
