This course offers an introduction to the changes and progression in art in this period. Key artists, such as Filippo Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Donatello and Sandro Botticelli, will be discussed. Next to that, attention will be paid to art commissioners, like Cosimo and Lorenzo De' Medici, and the artists' daily life in this magnificent era.
The program includes a walking tour through the city center (from the Duomo to Piazza Signoria and Ponte Vecchio) and visits to the Uffizi, the Museum dell'Opera del Duomo (to see Lorenzo Ghiberti's original bronze doors) and the church of Santa Maria Novella.
Class hours for this course
Tuesday to Thursday: 9.00-10.30 classroom sessions; 10.45-12.15 site visits. There are also classes in Dutch offered in the afternoon at 13.30 - 16.45.
