For thousands of years Greeks have been gathering around a table with food. It is a sense of family, connection and friendship that characterize Greek mentality. This is your chance to taste local food and live the Greek way of shopping and eating. We will guide you through locals where Athenians are making their daily shop. We know the right places where you can discover and taste various Greek foods and specialties which are known as one of the best cuisines.

The whole tour takes place in the center of Athens, in the central market and Monastiraki areas, from where you can see the Acropolis of Athens. On this Athens food tour we'll experience the Central Market where small locals merchants show their fresh food and local products. After passing and experiencing tastes and drinks and being in places where only Athenians shop, we shall continue the walk to the Monastiraki square.

On this very special Greek food tour we begin with some exploration of Athens at Kotzia Square. The Square is surrounded by gorgeous neoclassical buildings, constructed in the early 18th century by mostly German architects and archeologists. The Mayor building and the National Bank of Greece are one of these masterpiece buildings, with a concept originally taken from the classic period of Pericles. A few meters from the fountain of Kotzia Square you will find some ancient ruins of old houses that we will have a peek at on our way to the Market. We shall take a glimpse at the real modern life and tradition of everyday Athenian in the markets and discover who is shopping for what to take home to their kitchen. Our special guide will help us get to the places where no tourist has ever put his feet on and help us discover a variety of tasty Greek specialties.

A Greek hot coffee in winter or a cold Frappe in warmer days, together with the koulouri, a rounded shaped bread with sesame, is one of the most popular beverages drunk every day by Greeks. Discover more essential food, used in local dishes, like the Feta, olives, and other pastries delicacies. The Central Market is just a 5-minute walk from Kotzia square. There you will find different type of cheeses, meat and fishes, surrounded by shops, of herbs, wine, honey, and pastries. The central market is abuzz during the day, the most recommended in Athens produce shopping because of its quality and prices. We'll drop by a Greek deli shop or small tavern, with fresh products, and will be enlightened about the foods available at the moment from the local provider.

After a tasty tour, with a variety of Greek food, we will bring you to Monastiraki square where you can enjoy the rest of the day, visit the Ancient sites, the Acropolis, and Plaka area, and even order, with confidence in any restaurant, the foods and specialties you have just discovered.
