What To Expect
A private English-speaking guide will pick you up from your hotel at around 9:00 or 13:00 to go to Yao Mountain.
Yao mountain is named after the Yao Temple built on the western slope of the mountain during the Qin Dynasty. Yao Mountain (8 kilometers away from the city and 909 meters above sea level) is the largest and highest mountain in the area. It used to be an island in the ancient oceans. It is made of earth while the other hundreds of hills of Guilin are made of lime stone. An exciting chairlift ride will take you up to the top of Yao Mountain and you can enjoy views of magnificent Karst formations along the way and at the peak.
Afterwards you you'll head to the local Tea Plantation at Guilin Tea Science and Research Institute. This was the royal tea garden during the Ming Dynasty 400 years ago. The soil in the area is very fertile and rich in trace elements.
Tea from this area had been paid as tribute to the imperial court because of its high quality and health benefits throughout the history of China. Here you will get a chance to learn about tea plantations, tea processing and tea varieties. You may also try some local green tea in one of their tea rooms.
In this tour, you will also get a chance to visit a Chinese Cultural Factory. The tour ends with the transfer back to your hotel at 13:00 or 17:00.
