What To Expect
Located along the banks of the Red River in North Vietnam (around 20 kilometers from the center of Hanoi), Bat Trang Village is known for its outstanding pottery products.
Bat Trang Village has been famous for its ceramics for over a thousand years. Perhaps its most outstanding strength is its tradition of pottery making and the villagers' craftsmanship which has been developed over many generations. The people here are very skillful and talented, producing pottery products with a distinct style. Traditional quality pottery products include bowls, dishes, pots, cups, wine pots, big flower vases, leg lamps, lime-pots, big-bellied jars with glazes (such as ancient pearl blaze, crackle glaze, dark glaze, indigo-blue flower glaze, grey flower glaze, and melt glaze among others).
Bat Trang's celadon, crackle-glazed vases and ancient-restored designs are popular worldwide especially in Japan, France and the United States. This is also a good place to witness the art of making ceramic by hand at family owned factories in the village.
