Don't miss out on the opportunity to walk, camp and hike at Maria Island in east coast Tasmania. This Australian hidden gem has everything from spectacular scenery to rich wildlife to overall outstanding natural beauty.

The package includes meals, accommodations, and equipment specified below. Your bags will be transported each day to the campsite, leaving you free to enjoy your walk without having to carry a heavy pack. The tent will be set up and ready by the time you arrive.

Day 01: Hobart - Maria Island

Meet at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Hobart at 07:35. At 07:45, begin your scenic drive north and reach Triabunna where we board the boat to Maria Island.

Upon arrival at the Island, take a quick walk around Darlington Township to learn about its complex history and intriguing past. Hear about the Ghosts, the hardships, the entrepreneurial spirit and sheer tenacity of the Island's previous inhabitants. Then, hike up to Skipping Ridge for lunch. Enjoy magnificent views of Fossil Bay and Bishop and Clerk.

After lunch, challenge one of the top 10 day walks in Australia, passing through grasslands, open forest and tall woodland, to the rocky slopes of the summit if Bishop and Clerk, where spectacular views await. If the group decides not to walk up to the top of Bishop and Clerk, we will take a walk at Skipping Ridge instead and follow the track curling back toward Darlington where you will have some free time.

Then, head to your accommodation at the historic Penitentiary, built in the 1830's at the world heritage settlement of Darlington and refurbished with comfy bunk beds and wood-fire heaters. Enjoy a dinner under the starts served camping style.

Day 02: Painted Cliffs - Return Point - Encampment Cove

After breakfast, we hike to Encampment Cove on the southern part of Maria Island. Stop for morning tea by the colored sandstones at Painted Cliffs. Take some time to observe the patterned sandstones, carved by the sea and bordered by rock pools where marine life thrives. After this we stop for lunch at a location overlooking a secluded beach near return point.

After lunch, head south down the Island's coastline. Along the way, explore the historical remnants of French Farm, named after the French family that built it in 1936. Finally we head to Encampment Cove via Lesueur Point. The convict ruins boast a wonderful panoramic view of Mercury Passage and the local bays. What out for kangaroos on the open paddocks and the occasional wombat trundling around!

We camp at Encampment Cove tonight. Sit by the campfire while dinner is served.

Day 03: Encampment Cove - Haunted Bay - Hobart

Enjoy a morning walk after your breakfast. Pass Riedle Bay, an empty yet beautiful long white beach on the eastern side of the isthmus. If you wish, you make take a dip at the beach.

Head toward the southern part of the Island and reach Haunted Bay. The bay, which got its name from the eerie sounds made by the local penguins at night, was originally only accessible by sea and was used for whaling and sealing in the very early days of European settlement in the 1820's.

Enjoy a last lunch at Haunted Bay. After this, we head back to MacRae's Isthmus for the boat ride back to Triabunna. At Triabunna, board the coach that will take us back to Hobart.
