You will enjoy amazing views of two golden-domed monastery complexes while walking along the Sophiiska and Mykhailivska Squares before continuing on to St. Andrew's Church, a striking piece of baroque architecture from the 18th century.
You will walk down Andriivskyi Uzviz (Andriyivskyy Descent), which starts from St. Andrew's Church. Numerous art galleries and shops of folk and applied art make this romantic street the cultural center of Kiev.
Saint Sophia's Cathedral (1037) is the most vivid example of the Old Rus architecture. It was built and decorated in monumental art when the state of Kyiv Rus was living through the peak of its prosperity. It was here that grand prices were crowned and buried and formal ceremonies and receptions of envoys were held.
On the walls there are mosaics and frescoes of the 11th century, depicting scriptural scenes, various figures of the Church's history, the apostles, and warriors and maidens. These paintings were done using a unique method and are considered very valuable.
