What To Expect
This tour comprises two features: a guided tour from central Lisbon to the Belem district, and a skip-the-line ticket to UNESCO World Heritage-listed Geronimo's Monastery in Belem.
We catch a 10-minute tram ride, with the sea to one side and the city's hills to the other. We jump off the tram at the President's residence - a spectacular belvedere looking over the Tagus river.
We walk along to the Horse Carriage museum and the Naval Museum - as many signs of Portugal's grand international heritage. Walking through Belem is an opportunity to call to life the times when Portugal ruled the world side by side with Spain.
We detour to Belem's only residential district - and look at the food stands, with dishes often deriving from the monastery next door.
We then discover the facade of the Jeronimo's Monastery - Lisbon's undisputed gem, and the masterpiece of the era of explorations, when European sailors set out to sea to discover lands they were unsure even existed, and brought back treasures they lavishly dispensed on their home city.
Tour also brings you the insider's Lisbon - the main attractions but also the city's best Pastel de Nata cream tart, urban legends about Belem, good places to eat, and answers to whatever questions you will be sure to have.
We then head towards the Tower of Belem. As we stare at the vast expanses of the Tagus river, we discuss Vasco de Gama, the Caravel ships and the age of explorations, and why Portugal... turned Christopher Columbus down. Our tour ends at the Exploration Memorial Statue - we are ready to sail the seas...
