A major thoroughfare in the St. James district, Pall Mall has been London’s clubland for more than 150 years. Exclusive gentlemen’s clubs like the Athenaeum on No. 107, Nash’s United service Club on No. 116 (deemed the Duke of Wellington’s favorite), Oxford and Cambridge Club, Traveller’s Club, Reform Club, and the Royal Automobile Club may be found here. For a time Pall Mall also served as a hub of fine arts in London, following the short-lived stay of the Royal Academy, the National Gallery, and auction house Christie’s. To this day, these clubs remain as exclusive as ever to the gentlemen-members and guests.
