At the east of Soho, Covent Garden
was the central food market until 1974, but it was totally
renovated and is now full of artisans, retailers and
restaurants. Near this piazza, the Saint Paul's Church
was built by Inigo Jones and is open on a little garden.
On the other side of the piazza, the Royal Opera House
was built by E.M. Barry, the son of the architect of
Westminster palace.
On the piazza, the London Transport Museum shows the
history of public transport in London since 1800 : trams,
buses, tube... The theatre museum is interesting too,
with costumes, accessories, decorations, exhibitions...
A little northern, Thomas Neal's is a luxuous commercial
centre, with jeweleries, clothing shops, etc.
Designer shops such as Paul Smith and Nicole Farhi,
mid range shops like Karen Millen, Monsoon and Oasis
and the downright quirky such as Lush the cosmetic maker
all have a presence here. The line up may be a little
light classical music followed by a comedian, a pavement
artist and a juggler.
