Start the tour with a visit the university town of Oxford, renowned as a center of academic excellence for over 900 years. Among its famous students were former President Bill Clinton, Lewis Carroll author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and C.S. Lewis, author of the Chronicles of Narnia.
Enjoy a gentle walking tour with your guide through narrow alleys and ancient squares where time stands still. We will have time to admire the beautiful college courtyards and see the Bodleian Library, one of the oldest libraries in Europe. We will also visit the grandest college, Christ Church where many of the scenes from the Harry Potter feature films were shot and its Great Hall was replicated in the studio as an inspiration for Hogwarts’ Hall.
You can opt to have lunch in Cotswalds, a charming blend of bustling market towns, sleepy villages and breathtaking natural scenery. It is sometimes called the “Heart of England” and designated as an Area of Natural Beauty.
We go on to visit Stratford-Upon Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. This delightful market town, steeped in culture and history is at the edge of the Forest of Arden and we will stop at the half-timbered house where Shakespeare was born in 1564. We will also visit the picturesque childhood home of Shakespeare’s wife and discover its treasure trove of historic domestic artifacts.
