Description

We will depart in the morning and go to Lugo in the Region of Galicia. Lugo is known for its famous 1700-year-old Roman wall built on the boundary of the original settlement. We will have dinner and spend the night in this province known for its impressive scenery.

On the second day, we will depart for La Coruna after breakfast and have a short panoramic tour of this city which is the second largest in the Region of Galicia and home to the 2nd century Tower of Hercules, the world’s oldest working lighthouse. There will be an optional excursion to the Rias Altas in the afternoon, passing through several villages in Northern Spain such as Pontedeume and Betanzos. Dinner and accommodations will be in La Coruna.
We will head on to Santiago de Compostela after breakfast and tour the capital of Galicia. Santiago de Compostela has been labeled a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will visit its famous Cathedral and you will have the rest of the afternoon free to explore this legendary pilgrimage town before dinner.

The Rias Bajas will be our destination on the fourth day of our adventure, passing through splendid landscapes such as the La Toja Island, the Ria de Arosa and Pontevedra. Dinner and accommodations will be in Vigo, known as the Olive City and the largest non-capital city in Spain.

The fifth day will be spent travelling to the region of Castilla y Leon via Zamora. We will arrive in Salamanca, one of the most spectacular Renaissance cities in Europe. You will have free time to explore the city and visit its Plaza Mayor, the original venue for bullfights. Beside it is the Central Market of Salamanca offering you fresh products of Spain. You can also visit the Monastery, home to the tomb of the Count and Countess of Monterrey. We will spend the night in this wonderful city and after breakfast, we will head to Ciudad Rodrigo and the Portuguese border. We will continue toward Coimbra through Guarda, the highest city in Portugal. We will have dinner and spend the night in Coimbra, site of the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest universities in Europe.

The seventh day will be spent traveling to Fatima, a world-famous pilgrimage center, famous for the religious visions that took place there in 1917. You will have free time to visit the Shrine before we continue to the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, located at the mouth of the River Tagus. We will spend the night at Lisbon and explore the city for most of the eight day.
After breakfast, we will go on a sightseeing tour of Lisbon and visit many landmarks such as the old Alfama Quarter, one of the oldest quarters in the city with its blend of Roman and Moorish architecture. You will have the afternoon to explore the rest of the city on your own or you may take the optional tour to Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. Sintra is a town in Portugal also declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on account of its 19th century Romantic architecture and the location of the Palacio Nacional de Sintra, summer residence of Portuguese kings.

Cascais, meanwhile, is a former fishing village that gained fame as a resort for Portugal’s royal family during the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s and now one of the richest municipalities of Portugal.
