Travel by Shinkansen, Japan's famous Bullet Train, to Kyoto - Japan's capital from 794 to 1868. Spend your morning visiting Nijo Castle, the residence of Tokugawa era shoguns, the gold-leaf covered Golden Pavilion, and the exquisite garden surrounding it. See Kyoto Imperial Palace and watch traditional artisans working their craft at the Kyoto Handicraft Center, where you can also purchase local items. In the afternoon, you can explore the city at your own pace before going back to Nagoya by train.

One day before departure

Your tickets and final itinerary will be delivered at least one day before departure to the address you provide for this purpose when booking.

  • 06:00 - 07:20 Board the Kodama or Hikari Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto (50 minutes) as indicated on your ticket. After arriving in Kyoto, join other tour members at Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto and visit the following by motorcoach.

  • Nijo Castle (50 minutes) The Kyoto residence of the Tokugawa Shogun, the main keep of which was built in 1603, is noted for the contrast of its solemn exterior and gorgeous interiors.

  • Kinkakuji Temple (45 minutes)

This temple is renowned for its beautiful Japanese garden and stunning Golden Pavilion.

  • Kyoto Imperial Palace (40 minutes)*

This exclusive compound can only be accessed as part of an organized tour group (not available on 23-25 October 2016).

  • Afternoon Return to Kyoto Station by motorcoach. The afternoon is free time until departure.

  • 20:40 - 21:30 Proceed to Kyoto Station on your own in time to board your scheduled train. Board a Hikari or Nozomi Shinkansen to Nagoya (40 minutes).

  • 21:40 - 23:20 Tour disbands at Nagoya Station.

  • You are required to book this tour 8 working days prior to the date of departure.

  • Children 5 years old and below are free of charge, provided they sit on an adult's lap. If they need a seat, they will be charged (child rates).

  • The following information will be required upon booking:

  • Name, address and phone number of your place of stay in Japan

  • In case you are staying at a personal residence, please inform us of the name of your landlord.

  • Tickets are delivered to your hotel/local residence one day before departure.

  • If there are any changes with your delivery address, please inform us 8 working days prior to tour departure date.

  • Requests for train reservations (such as departure / arrival time, seat number) is not acceptable.

  • An English guide will accompany the tour only at the time of Kyoto city sightseeing.

  • *The Kyoto Imperial Palace is closed every Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a National Holiday) and on 28 December 2016 to 4 January 2017. The Imperial Household Agency has announced that Kyoto Imperial Palace will also be closed on 23 to 25 October 2016 due to the Emperor's scheduled visit. As an alternative, this tour will visit Kitano Tenmangu (23 and 24 October) and Nishi Hongani (25 October).

  • On May 25 and August 25, the tour will visit Nishihongan-ji Temple instead of Kitano-Tenman-gu Shrine.

  • On Tuesdays (or Wednesday if Tuesday is a national holiday) in January, July, August, and December and over the year-end and New Year's holidays, Nijo-jo Castle is closed. The tour will visit Ryoan-ji Temple instead.

  • Please note that you will be asked to complete a form indicating your full name, nationality, gender, and age before entering Kyoto Imperial Palace.

  • This is a special tour for overseas visitors only. Residents of Japan may not participate.
