Delve into Mexican history when you visit Mitla, which is possibly the point of encounter of the two major cultures of Oaxaca - the Zapotecs and the Mixtecs, and the 2000 year old (approximately) Tule Tree.
Mitla is 42 km southeast of Oaxaca, and was originally founded by the Zapotecs around the 7th century A.D. It offers unique samples of decorative stone mosaic inlaid in distinct geometric patters that were masterfully created by the builders of this historic site.
The Tule Tree has the stoutest tree trunk in the world, and can be seen on the way to Mitla from Oaxaca.
