What To Expect
On this private tour, you'll walk Marais - once the Jewish Quarter, and now one of the hotspots of the Paris jet-set. Our walk takes us through 1,000 years of history, through medieval back streets and elegant town houses of the French aristocracy in the 1600's.
Along the way this tour recounts the tale of Jews in Paris - at times dreary, at other times surprisingly exciting and inspiring. We'll learn about French art and culture, and about Jewish contributions to it. We meet outside Paris' city hall, once the venue for persecution of Jews in the Middle Ages, and walk to the Shoah Memorial that honors the 73,000 Jews of France who died to the Nazis in World War II, as well as the Righteous - the many who saved Jews at the risk of their own lives.
We'll stumble upon exclusive stores tucked away in alleyways and private courtyards. Run into the story of the Dreyfus affair, the cause celebre trial that first gave rise to the idea of a Jewish homeland in Palestine.
Our tour generally ends at Place des Vosges - an elegant plaza for today's jet setters, with an invisible synagogue tucked away nearby, and one of the greatest of Paris' secret landmarks.
