What To Expect
Go on a day tour to discover some of the most extravagant structures built in France to act as residences for famous monarchs. During this tour, you will be taken back as far as the 12th century as you visit the Chateau de Fontainebleau and the Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte (16th century).
First in the itinerary is a tour of the Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte. This Castle was built between 1658 to 1661 by the best artists of the time (Le Notre, Le Vau, and Le Brun) for Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances of King Louis XIV. Some of the sites worth visiting in this castle are the its impressive gardens made by Andre le Notre (also responsible for the beautiful gardens of the Versailles Palace), the rooms of the King, the dining room, and the dungeons. This castle was also the set location of the film, The Man in the Iron Mask.
Lunch will be enjoyed in the restaurant located in the Vaux le Vicomte castle itself. You can also eat lunch outside, beside the ornate gardens that can make your meal even more special.
Next on the itinerary is a tour of the Chateau de Fontainebleau. This castle is considered a UNESCO World Heritage site and a national museum as well. French monarchs starting from Francis I to Napoleon III have resided in this chateau during their reign and time of death. Among the remarkable features of this castle are its lavish hallways, more than 1530 rooms, 130-hectare park, decorative ballroom, and immense theater. Admire the horseshoe-shaped staircase located at the entrance of the castle.
