What To Expect
Journey down the Ourcq Canal aboard a small cruise ship as a horse drags your boat through the smallest canal in France! This tour will be initiated with cruise boat boarding at the designated meeting point.
First on the itinerary is a cruise down the Ourq Canal which is known to supply Paris with potable water. Take in the romantic vibe as you pass through the antiquated stone bridges and poplars (flowering plants) that line across the length of the canal. While on your cruise, several friendly locals such as fishermen, cyclists, and strollers may greet you as you pass through.
Sail through the largest part of the canal until you reach the lock of Sevran where the smallest part of the canal will begin. Cross the woods of Sevran, also known as the parc de la Poudrerie. This area was once the national gunpowder factory during the 19th century.
Listen to the cruise's audioguide as it explains the history of how Napoleon Bonaparte created the canals for the Parisians to get drinkable water to the city. Once you have passed a swing bridge, you will stop by the marina of Claye-Souilly where you may have lunch at your own expense.
After lunch has been enjoyed, come back to the cruise boat and have a horse draw the boat across the small canal. This method had been practiced by the locals especially during the 19th century. As you reach the lock of Fresnes and Charmentray city, you will come across Trilbardou where an elevator factory is located. This factory supplies the canals with water from the Marne River.
Last on the itinerary is the bus transfer from Trilbardou back to the designated meeting point where you road the cruise boat earlier.
