What To Expect
Lagoa do Fogo is a crater lake in the center of Sao Miguel Island that does not allow any modern construction around the site! Enter this virginal paradise and experience nature to the fullest. The terrain is covered in brush and scrub from the west to the south, and tall and dense forest in the north and east. Enjoy the vast biodiversity of this mystical island on a hiking tour!
We begin on a dirt path that climbs through eucalyptus, incense, conteiras and New Zealand flax that was woven in a factory whose ruins we will visit. We continue along a levada, and the trail widens, with large slopes on both sides that lead to the margins of Lagoa do Fogo.
Next, we go uphill to enjoy a breathtaking view of Vila Franca do Campo and its islet. We will enjoy a delightful picnic lunch along the shores of the lake, where you can take the opportunity to take a swim in its pristine waters! Lastly, we return to the starting point on a path covered in endemic vegetation, and a sea of pastures and lowlands. Reward yourself after the hike by bathing in the Caloura harbor before your return.
