What To Expect
The Azores Islands hold some of nature's best-kept secrets. Discover the magical creatures of the land on this birdwatching tour! We will take you from Ponta Delgada to Nordeste, and along the way you can already see some of the endemic birds. There are 30 species of birds that nest throughout the archipelago, among them the Cory's Shearwaters, Roseate Terns and the elusive Azores Bullfinch. The plumage and shape of these birds are just as peculiar as their names! Both beginners and advanced birdwatchers will delight in the uniqueness of the flora and fauna exposed to them throughout this tour.
We will have a picnic lunch at Vila do Nordeste, then we will make our way towards the beach and port of Povocao, the first settlement in Sao Miguel Island established by its conquerors and inhabited by their descendants. See an array of sea birds with the background of picture-perfect landscapes. We will stop along the shores of Lagoa das Furnas, an interesting lake with volcanic fumaroles. You may even see the locals cooking the traditional Cozido using the boiling water along its shores! Let your imagination fly to new heights as you take in the beauty of this mystical place.
