After lunch, we will go on a guided tour of one of the largest art collections in the world, spanning from Roman, Etruscan and Egyptian antiquities to contemporary art. We will learn about the famous Popes of Rome, their love for art and the glamorous lives they let during the Renaissance. After taking time to appreciate the masterpieces housed by the Vatican Museums, we will proceed to St. Peter’s Basilica and Square, an immense area that is home to many other precious works of art including Michelangelo’s breathtaking “Pieta” and Bernini’s Papal Canopy.
A drive through Baroque Rome will follow and you can enjoy superb views of the city from one of its hills. We will go to places that big buses are unable to pass by giving us a glimpse of Rome’s hidden side. We will then make our way to the most visited attractions of Rome, starting with the Pantheon. We will tour its interior and learn about this magnificent example of a classical building that has been intact since the ancient Roman times. We will also see the Trevi Fountain, the largest baroque fountain in the city which according to legend will give luck if three coins are thrown over one’s left shoulder from the right hand. We will also see the Spanish Steps, the longest and widest staircase in Europe which climbs a steep slope between the Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinita dei Monti.
