What To Expect
Be one of the select few to be granted access to Rome's Pyramid of Cestius, and step into the darkened depths of its sacred tomb. Constructed under the orders of a wealthy magistrate, Gaius Cestius Epulo, around 15 BC, this extraordinary monument is considered to be one of the best-preserved ancient buildings in Rome.
On this tour, be led into the heart of the pyramid to discover the burial chamber of Gaius Cestius. Learn fascinating details about the history of this unique structure as you descend into the cool darkness and feel the weight of time bear down on you.
Keep your eyes peeled and you might spot the beautiful inscriptions on the east and west flanks of the pyramid, which reference the religious group to which Cestius belonged and the 330 days that were allocated for the pyramid construction. Within the chamber you will notice the faded remains of the various frescoes which were found during its rediscovery in 1660.
