What To Expect
Visit the Museum of Political History. It contains a range of exhibits, with the original documents from the last Russian Emperor's rule, the Civil War, the Second World War, and the perestroika. Board the cruiser Aurora. It's well-known for the shot it fired that signaled the start of the Revolution of 1917. Watch Smolny Ensemble, originally constructed as an institute for noble girls which later became the headquarters of the Communists.
Enjoy lunch in the unique restaurant "Propaganda" (popularization in Russian) decorated according to the aesthetics of the 20s that denied the bourgeois way of life and pomposity. Rough and heavy furniture, homemade lampshades and metal construction are the main elements of the restaurant's interior. The color scheme is (as it quite clear) comprised of military green and revolutionist red. You will definitely feel the atmosphere of Russia during the 20s!
Next head to the museum covering the years of the siege of Leningrad at the time of the Second World War. This will allow you to explore the different architecture styles during the Communist time.
