Formerly the Children's Museum of Utah, Discovery Gateway is a children's museum located in downtown Salt Lake City's Gateway Mall.
The museum was founded in 1978 at the former Wasatch Warm Springs building, but as exhibits grew and expanded, the museum relocated to Gateway Mall in 2006.The 60,000 square foot museum features interactive exhibits, programs and workshops for children of all ages, encouraging them to learn by hands-on experience and spend quality time with their families. Discovery Gateway has a wide range of permanent exhibits, exposing children to arts and science through creative and interactive play. The exhibits are divided into six zones: The Garden, Kid's Eye View, Story Factory, Media Zone, The Studio and The Terrace. In the Garden, children can work together with adults by sending balls around a 30-foot beehive. Kid's Eye View is a kid-sized city complete with a house, a grocery store, a service station, a farm and a water play zone. Story Factory encourages children tell narratives in variety of ways while the Media Zone allows them to make a news or weather report. The Studio is a creative space for budding artists, engineers and scientists and the Terrace lets children get inside a helicopter and imagine a rescue scenario. Children will also be kept busy by fun, educational classes and weekly workshops that cater to different interests and themes. The museum also offers birthday party packages and annually holds the Bumble Bee Bash, a family fundraising community event.Employees are just around to help children unlock their learning potentials. The museum draws 300,000 visitors each year.
