Description

Fremont, Center of the Universe, where the Artist's Live. This neighborhood jaunt takes you through Fremont, where many local artist’s live and work. We begin at an enchanting Rose Garden with topiary trees right out of Alice in Wonderland, where we will explore a variety of photographic techniques and styles along with composition and proper metering. Onward we go, as we journey down hill past yoga and belly dancing studios on our way into the heart of Fremont. Public art flourishes here with famous sculptures like "Waiting for the Interurban" which Seattleites dress up in costumes at whim, a bronze statue of communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin, along with a lurking Troll who is eating a life-size Volkswagen Beetle. To photograph the Troll you will learn long exposure and low light photography, so if you have a tripod, bring it. If not, learn techniques on how to shoot in low light without one. There are many coffee shops with fresh baked goods to try if you are in the mood. We will stop to photograph the sign "Fremont, Center of the Universe" as we stroll past galleries, cafes, artist studios, and shops in funky wood storefronts on our way to the tree lined ship canal that connects Seattle’s lakes to the salt-water sound. From there we will walk to Gasworks Park on Lake Union where we will photograph the city skyline with sailboats in the foreground. You will learn how to get the most out of a sky, how to bring energy into your images, and what different filters do. The old gasworks is an industrial treasure trove of possibilities for photographers. Kite flying is also popular at this park. Understanding light, its direction, the type, and how it affects the photograph will be discussed. Once the tour is over you are in the perfect place for shopping and dining, with local breweries, a Sunday outdoor artist and farmers market, and a plethora of other opportunities. The Summer Solstice Parade happens in Fremont with artist made floats, dancers, art cars, performance art, and the famous nude bicyclists. "Fremont is a state of mind . . . an Imagi-Nation based on the freedom to dream."
Fremont's 1994 proclamation of independence.
