What To Expect
Experience Singapore like never before as you explore the Chinatown complex, the largest hawker center in the city consisting of over 220 stalls. A hawker center or "cooked food center" refers to an open-air complex that consists of stalls selling a variety of inexpensive food.
Your knowledgeable local guide will show you the ropes and introduce you to some of the most authentic and delicious Singaporean treats! Enjoy the famous chicken rice along with a delicious serving of poh piah, which are fresh spring rolls. Try some local Chinese delights such as chwee kueh (water rice cake) complemented by freshly crushed, ice-cold sugar cane juice.
While you chow down on your food, your local guide will be sharing with you some Singapore history, information about the city's rich culture and some local know-how on how this food is prepared. Learn how hawker centers came to be and why this tradition is so close to the Singaporeans' hearts.
Afterward, take a stroll through the wet market to explore local food sources. Check out some interesting livestock and fresh ingredients used in our local food. Next, hit the streets of Chinatown. Learn about the history of the early migrants in this area and how they came to settle and build their lives here. Experience also how people from all kinds of places live in harmony in Chinatown as you visit some religious sites dotted along the same street.
Take a respite from the outdoor heat with a visit to the air-conditioned Urban Redevelopement Authority (URA) gallery to understand how the city planners built Singapore from a humble fishing village to a great cosmopolitan city!
Finish up the tour with a freshly brewed teh or kopi tarik (pull tea/coffee), along with a tasty roti prata (flour-based pancake). Your local guide will share with you some final bits of knowledge and some tips for the rest of your stay in the magical city of Singapore!

This tour involves a fair amount of walking and guests will be exposed to elements such as sun and rain. Therefore, casual clothes and good walking shoes are appropriate. Please note that it can be extremely hot in Singapore, so please dress accordingly; however, note that tops with longer sleeves are preferred due to local customs. We also suggest that you bring a hat, water, pack of tissues, and some money for personal purchases. A small umbrella is ideal in case of rain.
