About Syracuse
The historic city of Syracuse has a rich place in Greek history and culture that spans some 2700 years. It is well known for being the birthplace of the great ancient Greek scientist and engineer Archimedes, and was described by the Roman statesman Cicero as "the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all" in his orations. Today the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is now the capital of a province that bears its name. Make a historic mark on your 2015 travel plans and book our Syracuse tours and activities.

Explore the grandness of Syracuse, or Siracusa in the Italian. See some of the best preserved historical treasures on the island of Sicily as you venture around the city with a licensed guide, moving along at your own pace. Start at the Neapolis Archaeological Park, where you can see ancient landmarks like the Cathedral and the Arethusa fountain, as well as palaces in the baroque style. Many bars dot Cathedral Square, and here you can relax and enjoy Sicilian treats made of honey and Avola's almonds, complemented perfectly by local wine. The pedestrian center has many restaurants and shops which you can visit, and dine or shop at. Later you'll get to explore the countryside, and even step over the place where the continental plates of Africa and Europe meet.

Exit the city limits and go on a trip to tranquil Taormina in a walking tour. This popular tourist destination, which German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe called "a part of paradise," is well known for its ancient ruins, medieval streets and alleyways, as well as its beautiful scenery. The majestic Greek Theatre forms the centerpiece of tourism in the town, while Mt Etna looms over the landscape. When you are done sightseeing in the area, try a Sicilian cooking lesson, where you will learn how to make Sicilian cuisine with instruction from a chef. You'll get to feast on your creations when you're done making them, as well as take home the recipes and souvenir photos of your experience.
