What To Expect
Travel by express train** to Hualien on the east coast of Taiwan to visit Taroko National Park and admire its landmark gorge. Nicknamed "The Marble Gorge," the Taroko Gorge is one of Asia's most amazing natural wonders and must not be missed by any travelers visiting Taipei.
Be guided along a 20-kilometer (12 miles) stretch of highway above the rushing Liwu River and marvel at the high mountains, long tunnels, sheer marble cliffs and deep gorges. Venture from the main highway and into the park's several hiking trails to experience nature up close.
Take the Eternal Spring Shrine Trail (Changchun Trail) and walk the pleasant 1.35 km (0.85 mile) loop to see the Eternal Spring Shrine memorial and the small Zen monastery Changuang Temple.
See the famous rock formation "Indian Head Rock" along the Swallow Grotto Trail (Yentzihkou / Yanzikou Trail) which is about a 1.37 km (0.83 mile) hike with splendid geological features. Search for the swallows within holes along the rocks and marvel at the great river deep below.
Enjoy a rest stop at the Tienhsiang Lodge area where you will be taken to the 5-star Silks Place Taroko hotel's Mei Yuan Restaurant to feast on some delectable Chinese food.
After lunch, make a quick quick stop at a marble factory before heading to other highlights around Hualien - Chi Hsing Beach (Qixingtan) and Hualien Stone Sculpture Park. Take in the fresh sea air and stroll along the beach and admire the outdoor display of stone-carved artworks before catching the express train back to Taipei.
