What To Expect
This introduction to street photography will get you closer to people with your camera. On this photo tour, take a closer shot at the side-streets and inhabitants of Tokyo. This is a taste to street photography and is aimed at those interested in getting to know the city better. Delve deeper into what makes this city so unique!
Start the tour before sunset to take advantage of the best light conditions. Meet the photographer at Harajuku station and get acquainted with the necessary photography techniques for this tour and you're all set to begin!
Your session kicks off at Takeshita Street in Harajuku, the busiest strip on a Sunday afternoon in Tokyo. Learn how to get close without being invading people's privacy and shoot candid shots. Expect eccentric characters in your frame too! The tour then stretches out to quieter and lesser known areas of Harajuku. Take your time to refine the composition of your shots. Learn how to look for decisive moments, interesting scenes and eye pleasing backdrops.
Then take a short train ride to the next station to change the scenery completely. As daylight dims and the neon lights come to life, enter Shibuya. Explore the narrow backstreets of the neighborhood. The artificial lighting in central Tokyo is strong and clear, perfect for capturing interesting scenes of nightlife unfolding in your viewfinder. Isolate your subjects, put them into context and create a story; your very own story of Tokyo.
By nature, street photography is fun yet more demanding as it focuses more on people. Whether you're a beginner curious about street photography or a professional aching for some practice, this tour is for you!
