Travelers flee winter's wet grounds, ice storms, dark evenings and endless fogs, but that's the opposite in Zurich where the frosty season is one of its main attractions.
Zurich-based Christian explains why the winter season is magical in his city. "Everything is covered with snow. But every season has its own beauty. Summer's days are long (from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM) while spring invites with flowers and the fresh green of the forest. Fall is beautiful too with the colored leaves and the mystic fog in the morning." To get the best of both warm and cold worlds, he suggests traveling in spring.
Except for the three years he spent in Mexico, Christian has always lived in Zurich. He loves his city because of the accessibility, cleanliness and the cultural attractions. "Zurich is a little city where you can reach everything (by) walking. It’s clean and all very organized. I love the multicultural atmosphere and the huge variety of attractions like the Opera and Concert Halls, Theaters and Movies, Clubs, Restaurants and Bars and the many festivals in summer!" Christian brings us up to speed on his favorite things to do in Switzerland's largest city.
Recommend activities that a first-time traveler must not miss in your city.
An excursion to the Swiss Alps like Mt. Titlis or Mt. Pilatus using different means of transportations (public train, cogwheel train, boat and an aerial cable car ride)!
Christian also suggests taking an extended city tour "to get an idea of the most beautiful spots in the town and also it’s surroundings". The Zurich and Surroundings city tour does just that with an aerial cable car ride to the Felsenegg viewpoints, a ferry boat along Lake Zurich and many more.
What are the must-see cities?
Lucerne is maybe the most charming Swiss City located on beautiful Lake Lucerne surrounded by majestic mountains. Of course, the booming town of Zurich, still small but yet a world-class city!
Where is the best place to view the city?
The best ones are probably: The Dolder Grand Hotel inside the old town of Lindenhof and right at the city limits gives a great view to the town and in its surroundings.
I also recommend very much to go up to the Felsenegg viewpoint by aerial cable car. Not to forget the view you get on top of Prime Tower, Zurich’s tallest building from the restaurant “Clouds”.
What is your favorite spot in the city?
The trendy district of Zurich’s West Side with a huge variety of restaurants, bars, clubs and stores with fashion brands. If you like the urban culture – this is the place to be!
