“Great tour with a terrific guide Christina. She showed us hidden gems of the city in a small friendly group. The food and wines on offer were delicious. Lots of unknown facts to bring the history alive. ...Lorraine A., Australia – See more reviews
What To Expect
Make your visit to Venice even more exciting by joining a tour of the city's famed markets and by sampling several local wines and mouthwatering delicacies!
Start off the tour by meeting with your witty local foodie guide. Head over to the Rialto Fruit and Vegetable market and the Rialto Fish Market where you will be introduced to the locals' typical fresh buys.
At the Rialto Fruit and Vegetable Market, be acquainted with the ancient place where the people of Venice visited daily to buy fresh fruits and vegetables for every kitchen in the city. See native seasonal vegetables such as the Sant'Erasmo castraure (baby artichokes) and the radicchio trevisano (bitter red chicory). Fruits such as strawberries, cherries, apples, oranges, and many more are among some of the fruits that can be found inside the Rialto Fruits Market.
Next, visit the Rialto Fish Market where a daily supply of native fish, crustaceans, and bivalves are available for purchase. Popular catches include tiny shrimps, soft-shell crabs, baby octopuses, and squids.
All this talk of food will make you hungry so we'll be sure to sample sumptuous local wine and cicchetti along the way. On this side of the Grand Canal, you'll stop at two of Venice's most popular local bars. The cicchetti is Venice's answer to the Spanish tapas and includes local delicacies like crostini (bread with delicious toppings like whipped cod) and Venetian panini (technically sandwiches, but so much more). At each bar your guide will help you to choose two of the best cicchetti and of course a glass of wine, Prosecco or spritz to wash it down.
After the local bar visits, enjoy an exciting gondola ride across the Grand Canal. Explore around the Cannaregio, one of the most historic neighborhoods in the area.
Finally, head over to La Colonna , a small restaurant where you may delight in the flavors of a full meal complete with local specialties such as paste with squid ink and wine.
