Join a remarkable tradition in one of the most exclusive buildings of Vienna. Dances and promenade concerts once filled the elegant halls of Kursalon Wien and now the celebration continues on with the Johann Strauss Ball.
On February 18, 2017, the Kursalon Wien will open its doors for a splendid ball in historic surrounding as it also celebrates its 150th anniversary! Be there as the ball opens to the delightful harmonies of the Viennese waltz. Learn more about the secrets of the waltz and other standard ballroom dances in a dance workshop under the guidance of professionals. Sway to the melodies of classical and modern music and witness the midnight show and quadrille.
Johann Strauss Jr. was a 19th century Austrian composer and conductor who became famous all over Europe as the "Waltz King" with his popular waltz compositions, such as "On the Beautiful Blue Danube," "Vienna Blood" or the "Emperor Waltz". He has composed over 500 waltzes, 16 operettas, polkas, quadrilles, one ballet and one opera.
The Kursalon was built by Johann Garben in the 19th century with the Italian Renaissance style in mind. Balls and promenade concerts, many directed by Johann Strauss and his brother Eduard, filled this building with an atmosphere of musical delight and joie de vivre.
Guests may also have the option to enjoy the experience with a 3-course gala dinner. The special program will include a performance by the world famous Vienna Boys Choir along with traditional Viennese Ball highlights such as ballet and dance numbers. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Salonorchester Alt Wien and a selected ensemble.
