Your tour begins with a 20-minute drive to the beautiful village of Zaanse Schans, with its traditional 18th and 19th century green wooden houses and everal functioning windmills.
Watch live demonstrations of craftsmen at work, including a clog maker crafting the famous wooden shoes of the Netherlands. Enjoy some free time to explore the place on your own, before traveling through the distinctive polders (land reclaimed from the water) of the Beemster area.
Head to the pearl of the Zuiderzee - the medieval town of Edam, with its ancient streets and tranquil canals lined by beautiful 17th century buildings. Stroll around this history-rich town and see the Carillon tower, the Great Church, and the town hall. You cannot miss the the famous public Edam weighing house ("De Kaaswaag Edam"), where you can taste and buy delicious Edam Cheese!*
You'll also get to visit a cheesefarm, to learn how Edam's world-famous cheese is made and, of course, enjoy a delicious tasting!
Your last stop is in the charming seaside village of Volendam. The Volendam harbour has been attracting people from all over the world since 1875. Get to see the small buildings and houses of the area, and admire the locals in their traditional Dutch clothing. This the perfect stop to pick up souvenirs and to have photos taken in traditional Dutch costume.
Finally, follow your guide through the oldest parts of the city, exploring a labyrinth of twists and turns to sites such as St. Vincent’s Church, the wooden Stolphoevekerk and the Visafslag (Fish Auction).
