Start your tour at the town of San Lazaro, where Arequipa was founded. Walk the narrow streets where you can discover the secrets and history of the colonial era. Walk to the Main Square with its imposing cathedral, and explore the Plaza de Armas and its outstandingly preserved hispanic architecture. Cross the Grau bridge to witness a picture-perfect view of the Misti, Chachani and Pichu-Picchu volcanoes from the Carmen Alto viewpoint, which boasts of a panoramic scenery of the gorgeous landscape.

Step inside the Recoleta convent and museum, which has withstood many earthquakes since its completion in 1648. This Franciscan convent was built with the famous sillar rock peculiar to Arequipa, and its museum contains a treasury of of pre-Inca artifacts, such as textiles, totems, funeral masks and even mummies. Brows the portraits of the twelve Inca emperors, and peruse the Amazonian museum, with artifacts from the land collected by the Franciscan missionaries. These include prehistoric fossils of sea creatures and the clothing of the natives. History lovers will find a treat in the Dominican library, with over 20,000 volumes of rare published texts from the 15th century.

Cross the Fierro Bridge, the 7th longest iron bridge in the world, designed by Gustave Eiffel. Designed for railroad traffic, it is now used by vehicles. The view of the volcanoes and surrounding landscape from above is simply breathtaking.

Visit the venerable Church of the Candelaria Virgin where the feast of the Madonna of the same name is celebrated, and check out the array of notable restaurants surrounding the area.

Enter the charming Moral House, a remnant of the baroque-mestizo architecture that once dominated colonial Arequipa. Made of sillar, a white volcanic rock, this house was named after the mulberry tree in its central courtyard. Relive the splendor of Baroque art as you peruse the decorations, artwork, furniture and sculptures found inside the house, and stroll down a beautiful garden just like a nobleman of the time.

The final stop will be at the Tristan del Pozo house, built in 1738 remodeled into a museum and art gallery. The wonders of Baroque colonial architecture and art are seen in extravagant puma heads sprouting water, elaborate furniture and elegant paintings, including a collection of Peruvian costumes worn by the wealthy.
