What To Expect
Visit the Columbus Monument, which opened in 1888 during the Universal Exhibition and that stands at the end of famous La Rambla avenue.
The monument is dedicated to Christopher Columbus (1452-1506), the navigator who discovered America in October 1492 and who chose to disembark in the port of Barcelona on his return from America.
Barcelona City Council agreed to erect the monument as a tribute to Christopher Columbus in 1881.
Take the lift inside the column to the viewing platform at the top of the Colom Monument, 60 metres above the ground and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city of Barcelona.
Look north to admire the Gothic Quarter and Barcelona's historic buildings. You will see the bell towers of the Cathedral, Santa Maria del Mar and La Merce, the bustling Rambla, which meanders up to the Placa de Catalunya and marks the entrance to the Eixample district. It's where you'll find the city's main art-nouveau or modernist landmarks and the Sagrada Familia church by Gaudi.
If you look to the east following the coastline you'll be able to see the modern Forum district in the distance with its photovoltaic cell and tall buildings. Nearer to you, the twin towers flank the entrance to the Olympic Marina. The old harbour or Port Vell, and the industrial port are below you at the foot of the monument.
Admire Montjuic Hill to the south, with its castle at the top. Montjuic is also the site of museums, gardens, theatres and the Olympic Ring. The Royal Shipyards which house the Museu Maritim, are at the foot of Montjuic.
Finally, the Collserola Natural Park, the vast green lung surrounding the city, with the Collserola Tower and the Tibidabo Amusement Park are to the west.
Choose the Wine Tasting Option to treat your senses at the wine-tasting space, the Espai de Vins Mirador de Colom.
Taste one of the four of the best varieties of cava and wine with Designation of Origin status. Choose between the coastal area of Alella to the inland region of Pla de Bages, the innovative D.O. Catalunya and the world-renowned Penedes. Your glass of cava or wine will be accompanied by a tapa of artisan cheese.
Learn the main characteristics of the wines from the sommelier.
