What To Expect
Meet your guide in downtown Barcelona for a day trip to Colonial Guell and Montserrat.
In the morning go to Colonial Guell, a pretty little village, taste cava and visit Gaudi's crypt. You will be captivated by the charm and tranquility of the 19th century vestiges of the modernist area of Colonia Guell. Explore Gaudi's Crypt, the church of the Colonia Guell.
You will be able to admire the place where Gaudi brought together for the first time all of his architectural innovations: the naves single space without using buttresses, flying buttresses or supporting walls. Get to know more about the set of Gaudi's original solutions which answer to the desire for synthesis between structural planning, construction techniques, and architectural shapes and about aesthetic and symbolic values of the ornamental elements.
Continue to the mountain of Montserrat, the first National Park in Spain. At the top of the mountain is a monastery, inside which the image of the Virgin of Montserrat, also known as La Moreneta (the little dark-skinned one) is venerated. The Montserrat Mountain Natural Park is a very special place from the point of view of landscape and religious sense, but also from the natural perspective. The journey by rack railway begins at Monistrol de Montserrat and allows passengers to sit back and enjoy the landscape. A visit to the Santa Cova by funicular is well worthwhile.
Then stop at its famous abbey called Santa Maria de Montserrat and marvel at the Black Madonna, also known as La Moreneta, which represents the patron saint of Catalonia. In the square in front of the monastery, you can visit Montserrat Museum, which boasts a collection of more than 1,300 works.
Enjoy the Interactive Exhibition entitled ''Montserrat portes endins'', which offers an insider's view of how the Benedictine community of Montserrat is organized and places you into the physical and historical context of Montserrat. Then, discover l'Escolania de Montserrat, a boys' choir school of sopranos and altos. You will see areas such as the classrooms, the library and the laboratory, the music school and the choir's rehearsal room, the soundproof booths for studying instruments and the musical library.
You shall also visit the choirboys' living area, including heir dormitories, dining room, games room and terrace.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at the meeting point in downtown Barcelona.
