What To Expect
After being picked up at your hotel, take a scenic ride to the Jingshan Park, known as one of the Imperial Gardens of China. Led by your guide, climb to the top of Jingshan Hill and marvel at the breathtaking view of the Forbidden City located at the south of the park. This vantage point also allows you to enjoy a panoramic 360° view of Beijing City.
Then, witness the park fills with middle-aged and older locals who gather in groups to sing the revolutionary songs of their youth, play the traditional two-stringed erhu or practice the slow, graceful movements of Tai Chi. For a full experience, you may also join in their morning exercises or listen to their worthwhile stories.
Departing from the park, proceed to a local market to buy fresh vegetables for your cooking class. With the help of a local chef, cook delicious dumplings, a traditional Chinese food loved by almost everyone in China. You will also learn to cook two other dishes famous in the country.
Get the price of your labor and take delight in the mouthwatering Chinese dishes you've cooked at the Hutong Courtyard House, an exquisitely restored private courtyard.
Then, explore the Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world. See one of the finest monumental gates in the world, which was the principal entry to the Imperial Palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Take your spirit of journey to the Forbidden City and have a glimpse of what it was like to live the imperial life. The domain was closed to the outside world for 500 years, and no one could enter or leave the area without the permission of the reigning leader. Walk through the gardens and palatial buildings just as the emperors did and see the Dowager Empress's theatre, with its cunning trap doors and hall of clocks.
Before going back to your hotel, end your adventure with a lovely tea ceremony at a local tea house.
