What To Expect
Start you day with a pick up from your hotel by a comfortable air-conditioned coach. Proceed to the picturesque Temple of Heaven, one of the iconic landmarks of the city. The temple was used several times when the emperor, bearing the sins of the Chinese people humbled himself before heaven and performed rituals calculated to insure good harvests. See the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, an ornate and colorful structure mounted on a three-tiered marble altar. Amazingly, the wooden pillars ingeniously support the ceiling without a single nail, symbolizing the harmony between man and nature.
Meet your English-speaking Tai Chi master who will explain the principles of this unique martial arts and teach you key moves you need to look graceful in combat. Learn how to perform a series of slow, meditative movements which is designed to help you reduce stress and find inner peace. At the end of you class, your instructor will give you an excellent demonstration of this graceful martial arts.
Then, visit a local silk factory and see the interesting silk-making process. Beautifully-crafted silk products are also available for purchase. You will then proceed to a local restaurant to feast in a sumptuous lunch of Chinese dishes.
In the afternoon, visit the Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world and continue to the Forbidden City. Commissioned by Emperor Yongle of the Ming dynasty, the Forbidden City was completed in 1420 and was home to 24 emperors until the last Qing emperor, Puyi, left in 1924. The entire imperial complex is reputed to have 9999 rooms, which at its peak, housed up to 10,000 people, including the imperial family, 3,000 eunuchs, as well as maids and concubines, all contained within 170 acres. Today, the gates of the Forbidden City lead to a fascinating display of Chinese history in what is probably the best-preserved site of Classical Chinese architecture.
You will be dropped off at your hotel by the end of your adventure.
