Retrace the steps of Vlad Tepes, known by many as the infamous Vlad the Impaler or Dracula. Learn the life of this infamous ruler of Romania, how he was nicknamed as such and tales about how he became a 'vampire'.

Make the legend of Dracula come alive and visit the Poienari Fortress, Vlad's castle, and Royal court in Targoviste.

Poienari Fortress

This ruined castle is also known as as Poenari Citadel or the Cetatea Poenari. In the 15th century, Vlad renovated the castle and made this one of his main fortresses. To reach the castle, you must climb up more than 1400 steps. The fantastic views of the surrounding area and the Transfagarasan Road makes up for the tiring work out on the steep climb.

Royal Court of Targoviste

The Curtea Domneasca or the Royal Court of Targoviste was a compound which was surrounded by a moat and stone walls. A church was built later on and the Chindia Tower was added by Vlad the Impaler.
