Make the legend of Dracula come alive and visit the Poienari Fortress, Vlad's castle, and Royal court in Targoviste.
This ruined castle is also known as as Poenari Citadel or the Cetatea Poenari. In the 15th century, Vlad renovated the castle and made this one of his main fortresses. To reach the castle, you must climb up more than 1400 steps. The fantastic views of the surrounding area and the Transfagarasan Road makes up for the tiring work out on the steep climb.
Royal Court of Targoviste
The Curtea Domneasca or the Royal Court of Targoviste was a compound which was surrounded by a moat and stone walls. A church was built later on and the Chindia Tower was added by Vlad the Impaler. The area is well preserved and you can learn more medieval history by exploring the ruins, especially the underground area.
