With a population of over 1.7 million, Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is one of the largest cities in the entire European Union, and is among its most beautiful, with an extensive array of World Heritage Sites assigned within its city limits. The current site of Budapest was host to ancient city known as Aquincum, settled by a Celtic tribe called the Eravisci. It came under the rule of various civilizations, from the Romans to the Ottomans, before prospering into its modern, unified form in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today it is a financial and cultural hub, one of the most livable cities in Europe, and a treasure trove of history. Travel to Budapest in 2015 with our tours and activities and experience Budapest the right way!
Begin your journey with a Budapest City Tour, on which you’ll start at the Chain Bridge, a suspension bridge built in 1849 that was the first permanent bridge to span the Danube River, connecting the two once-separated cities, now districts, of Buda and Pest. Go past the Parliament and visit Margaret Island via the Margaret Bridge. Enter the Castle District and immerse yourself in history, as you see Matthias Church, Fishermen's Bastion, and the Royal Palace. Ascend the citadel where a beautiful view of the city awaits you. Go across the Danube to the side of the Pest district, to see the Central Market Hall and the largest synagogue in Europe. End your tour at Heroes’ Square, passing through Andrassy Avenue to get to the Opera House and St. Stephen’s Basilica, where you’ll halt at the historic city center.
Enjoy a Budapest River Lunch Cruise and board an air-conditioned vessel from the Danube Palace to drift gently down the famous river that bisects the city. Enjoy an amazing buffet lunch prepared by the only Gault Millau rated chef in Hungary, Kloter Gregor-Grex, while marveling at the sights that pass you by. Optionally enjoy this cruise without the lunch and just the drinks.
