About Buenos Aires Alvear Avenue

This city landmark is named after General Carlos María de Alvear, an important name in the fight for South American freedom under General San Martín’s leadership. Covering about seven blocks or so, Avenida Alvear includes the Alvear Monument and small palaces that survived urban planning. “Haute couture,” too, is a buzzword in this part of the city; the avenue is home to exclusive brands such as Prada, Louis Vitton, Versace and Nina Ricci.
